Located at Vadanamelli on East Coast Road near Chennai, the Madras Crocodile Bank Trust and Centre for Herpetology is a reptile conservation and breeding centre. Founded in 1976 by Romulus Whitaker, Zai Whitaker and other conservationists, it was established to help protect India's declining crocodilian populations, including the mugger, saltwater crocodile and gharial.
The Croc Bank is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and remains closed on Mondays. Night safari availability can vary and should be confirmed in advance before planning a visit.
November to February can be considered a suitable period for spending time outdoors at the reptile park.
By Road: The Croc Bank is located directly on East Coast Road and can be reached by buses operating along the ECR. Taxis, cabs and auto-rickshaws are also available.
By Air: Chennai International Airport is the nearest airport for visitors travelling by air. The Croc Bank is located south of Chennai on East Coast Road.
